2011 through 2012 "What's in Your Garden? What's Under Your Outhouse? What's in Your Field?" This is an ongoing exhibit that focuses on artifacts found in a garden in Woodstock, IL that may have been the location of the family outhouse and/or midden. The exhibit illustrates how an individual can research what we can learn from fragmentary artifacts such as a partial plate or cup by using the internet. Also exhibited are photographs and artifacts from the 1998 and 2000 Powers Walker Digs at Glacial Park, prehistoric artifacts including projectile points found in the fields of the Claxton Farm, equipment loaned from Midwest Archeological Research Services (MARS) in Marengo, a Mammoth tooth that was uncovered when the Kishwaukee River was dredged, and artifacts from the Pingree Hotel Site. Hands-on activities include a sand table where kids can try excavating and screening for artifacts. McHenry County Historical Museum, Union, IL. Admission: $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and students, and $12 family rate.
